They inched ahead in the dim light, frightened and confused, uncertain if they should trust their guide who upon their arrival assured them that they would find solace beyond the door that lay ahead. The low light prohibited them from gaining a sense of the width of the path. No one knew their numbers, no one knew the reason. But advance, they knew they must. Most of the men and women had faith that the answers would become revealed when the time was right. Some huddled together, others became belligerent should anyone even lightly brush against them. A few attempted to turn back, but found that the path behind them had somehow been swallowed, leaving only a ledge overhanging a terrifying abyss. These few always returned and struggled to seek safety and anonymity in the middle of the pack. But where were the children?
